Schoharie,
Berne-Knox-Westerlo Schools share transportation director
As part of an ongoing effort to cut costs while
maintaining the quality of services for students and the community,
the Schoharie Central School District is sharing a transportation
director with Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central Schools. Denise Towne began
overseeing pupil transportation effective July 1.
“We are pleased to welcome Denise Towne to our
school community, and by splitting her services with BKW, both of our
school districts are able to reduce transportation costs,” Schoharie
Schools Superintendent Brian Sherman said.
Schoharie’s previous transportation director, Cliff
Haslun, continues to be employed by the district as lead mechanic, a
role in which he’s dramatically increased bus safety for Schoharie
students. Haslun will work closely with Towne in her new position with
Schoharie.
“Under Cliff’s leadership,” Sherman said, “the
district raised its passing rate percentage for the year on DOT bus
inspections into the high 90s, a significant achievement. We are
fortunate to have a great pupil transportation team in place for the
coming school year.”
